European Thinkbelt is an exhibition that took place in 2017 in a theatre lobby in Frankfurt. Organized by Japanese theater director Akira Takayama, it adapts the utopian plan of a decentralized and mobile university by British architect Cedric Price. His “Potteries Thinkbelt“ from 1966 is regarded today as a key approach to post-industrial structural change.

Takayama revisits these theories to develop a series of projects as models for the dissemination of education and knowledge in the context of exodus and migration. Together with his collective Port B, he investigates and charts spaces and sites of change, individual trajectories and central routes, while also questioning European strategies of demarcation and identity construction.
